Georgia hoops can now move forward. I'll admit it - I had a fever earlier this week and the only thing I thought could cure it was Mike Anderson. When he re-upped with Mizzou, I had panic-stricken moments where I thought we might actually end up with Bobby Knight, which might be a fate worse than death. But, Damon Evans pulled a fast one on everybody and grabbed a guy from the west coast. Before tonight, I couldn't tell you who Nevada's head coach is, but I can now tell you who it used to be:

I must say, this appears to be a man to whom cutting down nets is an everyday thing. A pleasant task, for sure, but not something that you do only when heck freezes over (or tornadoes tear the roof of the arena). So, the Felton era is officially done and the Fox era has begun. I hope I am not overly optimistic in saying that this is the moment that the basketball team turned a corner.

Don't look now, but the Diamond Dawgs are 8-0 to start the season. Granted, five of those wins came at the expense of Youngstown State and the Blue Hose of Presbyterian, but the team is fresh off a three-game sweep on the road against Arizona. Everyone knows that Perno's team has an odd/even year bad/good thing going, but this team is expected to be a contender this year and early season results have done nothing to change anyone's opinion. And, they don't have to use Nike bats this year.

If last season didn't convince you that cheering on the UGA baseball team is more fun than suffering through a late-July MLB snooze-fest, then take it from the man:

It's that little-bitty 'ping.' It's not the same.

Felton Out.

Bummer, sort of. It became obvious that it is time for his era to end, but I wanted Coach Felton to have the opportunity to finish out the season. I had high hopes, with the talent of Leslie, Ware, and Thompkins, and some energy in the program after last year's miracle SEC Tourney. It's tough to replace a guy like Yata or to replace the fire of a Dave Bliss, but I thought this would really be a building year to spark a multi-year run. It just didn't work out that way.

But, Georgia basketball fans owe Felton a big thank-you. He took over a program that nobody would touch with a ten foot pole. Nobody can doubt that he ran a tight ship. He took a few chances on guys with talent but without discipline, caught a few bad breaks, but still managed to give the fans one of the best moments in 20 years. If I could condense that first Tubby season into one weekend, it would trump last year's tourney run, but otherwise?

He had his ups and downs with the fans. Early on, I think he expected a little too much of them and they expected a little too much of him. But, he's a guy that certainly worked hard enough to deserve this moment:

So, here's to you, Coach Felton. Wherever you go, may your ship be tight, your suit be pressed, and your emotions be animated.

After compiling this list, I absolutely had to find some good news. So, there's this:

Top recruiter Rodney Garner declined an offer for more money with the Volunteers.
The Diamond Dawgs are ranked #5 by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association.
The #1 ranked Lady Bulldog swimmers and divers defeated #6 Texas.

So, I guess it isn't all bad. Well, Go Dawgs!

Worst Sports Week Ever?

Things are rough in sports fan-world. Starting last Saturday, the Falcons lose their playoff game, the Bulldawg basketball team loses to Tech in a game that proved that the team is not, in fact, "on the right track," Stafford and Moreno announce they are leaving for the NFL, and now we hear that John Smoltz is going to pitch for the Red Sox, who I actually hate more than the Yankees (ask me about it sometime, because I love to ramble on and on about my reasons why). And, the Hawks lose at home to division-leading Orlando. What is a Georgia/Atlanta sports fan to do?

Write an open interweb letter to the Oklahoma head coach, of course.

Honestly, if the Gators win another national championship, in no less than OUR YEAR, I will puke. Every child will receive a trophy. Seriously, is the Tech athletic department afflicted with that disease that makes frat boys and sorority girls print up t-shirts every time three or more are together at the same time? I know Georgia retired a jersey over a Tech-slumpbuster, but come on. A ring? There are programs that do this sort of thing and there are programs that don't. I'm hoping that Georgia will remain one of the latter.

In other news, the Dawgs demolished North Carolina A&T, which is what you are supposed to do when you play North Carolina A&T. Coach Searels is staying, and there will be no rookie salary cap in 2010. Bad news comes in threes, but good news comes in fours so I think this means that Georgia will beat Michigan State by 28 points.

You win some, you lose some. Unfortunately, one of those losses is to Texas A&M-Corpus Christi. An overtime loss to the big-boy Texas A&M might be construed as a moral victory. An overtime loss to Texas A&M-Corpus Christi is a soul-crushing failure. 25 turnovers against a defense from heaven knows what conference is in no way related to a moral victory. There's not much else to do but hang our hopes on the freshmen and think about better times:

Dawgs win! By one...in overtime....at home....against Wofford....on one of those shots where you just sort of launch it in the general direction of the basket.....after Wofford missed two free throws to ice it....and after Wofford out-rebounded all day and forced 19 turnovers. Here's the AJC take on the game. I keep telling myself that after losing Sundiata and Dave Bliss, and after Billy Humphrey getting thrown off the team, I shouldn't expect too much. Dustin Ware and Trey Thompkins are talented, but they are young.

Here's where the whiny fan complaining starts:

On the other hand, isn't there an excuse every year? Why do so many players get kicked off the team? This is no longer a Jim Harrick-hangover situation. By the way, I can't help but think that Harrick could get 20 wins out of any group of players you gave him. Last year's SEC tourney was great, but has there honestly been a single other bright spot in six years?

Is this the sort of quote you want to hear the coach make after a game against the Wofford Terriers? “I told the guys that this was an example of how, no matter how grim things might look, how important it is to continue to play, to give yourself a chance, even if you win by luck.”

6-10 in the conference with no off-the-court issues is the Mendoza line in my imaginary world where I get to pick the coach. Winning the Derrick Favors sweepstakes would go a long way as well. Felton has to show that his program is on the right track. I expect...no, I demand relevance in March (picture me banging my fist on a desk). As I heard someone else put it - the state university with one of the biggest athletic budgets in the country and located 60 miles from Atlanta. That should be enough to have a Sweet 16 team year in and year out.

Things are slower than...how did Kirby put it again? Well, not slow in the real world, but slow in the Dawg world. I've been meaning to post a wicked recipe for Bulldawg Beans, but the DOTWU attorneys say to hold off until the patent application is approved.

In the meantime, basketball fans are riding high after the victory over Virginia Tech. This team might actually have some life in it after all.

Check out this video of former Dawg Chris Daniels getting nasty playing for somebody - I don't know who. It might be the Krakow Knickerbockers.

There's a great blog out there: DaugMan's Chronicles that provides good coverage on all the former players. There's a nice write-up on Fred Gibson. It looks like Steve Newman and Ezra Williams are also playing in the NBA D-League. Check out the Italian newspaper article on Yata: Gaines avverte 'Odio Perdere.'

Now, I just need to get around to my semi-annual internet search to see what Quincy Carter is up to. "That guy has eyes in the back of his head."

No National Championship, No SEC Championship, and the one that hurts the worse to me: No State Championship.

Although after today, we are still in contention to win the “Most Penalized Team” Championship.

I hate losing to Tech more than any other team on our schedule, yes, even more than Florida; I’m old school that way. I can’t understand how our “talent??” on defense can allow 45 points to Tech? I miss Coach Van Gorder…

42 points should be more than enough to beat Tech, the blame lies squarely with our so-called “D.” If you have “talented” players on defense that continue to under perform, at some point you must question their coaching/leadership. We had an extra week to prepare for this offense, which requires discipline and toughness to defend; we displayed an incredible lack of both in the 2nd half today.

Should the call be made for CWM’s head???

It's made with 1 and 1/2 ounces of light rum, 1/2 ounce of banana liquer, 1/2 ounce of Bacardi 151 and pineapple juice/orange juice to taste. As with most cocktail thursday concoctions, this one isn't brain surgery: Mix all the alcohol over ice, strain it into a glass and top it will the pineapple juice.** It's the potable equivalent of the toss sweep. You may have to run it a few times, but eventually you'll hit paydirt.

The End of the World as GTU Knows It

Maybe it is because I have friends and family members who are GT fans, maybe it is because they just aren't as awful as Florida or Tennessee, maybe it is because the series has been so lopsided for 20 years now. Whatever it is, I consider UGA-GT to be a bit more of a friendly rivalry as compared to our contests with some of our SEC rivals. So, it is with great sympathy that I note a tragic day for GT students.

"What happened?" you ask. Did both girls withdraw? Does Tech have to forfeit yet another season of late-90s victories? No - it is worse. Brace yourself and take a deep breath....Zima has been discontinued.

Untold stories of American History

Given the tumultuous times we are facing in our nation's history (and our offensive line) and the fact that we are on the eve of The Most Important Election Ever (or since 2004), we decided to take a break from tailgating this week and instead took in a history lesson at the home of P.G.T. Beauregard, a.k.a. General Beauregard.

Pierre Gustave Toutant Beauregard was born on January 1, 1832 in Watkinsville. The son of what was then called an "alesmith," he grew up learning the fine art of watering-down beer. After mixing his father's ale with waters from the sparkling Oconee River, he would sell his concoction to observers at local Native American lacrosse matches. Using a bizarre pricing strategy, the cost of a "kings-quart" of PGT's drink was based on the time left in the lacrosse match: one-pence for every period expired. Lacrosse fans delighted in the inexpensive refreshment, eventually calling PGT "The General" because of the way he dominated the Athens ale market. However, The General lamented that although his product was delicious at room temperature (no refrigeration was available at the time) it quickly became downright hot after exposure to the baking Northeast Georgia sun.

The General was hard at work designing an insulating wrap for his beverage when hostilities broke out at Fort Sumter. Thinking "The General" was an actual military-bestowed rank and not just a nickname, Jefferson Davis gave command of the Army of Northeast Georgia to PGT, now General Beuregard. After raising an army from students of the local university, Beauregard's first assignment was an attack on the army of Ohio State, camped near the Kentucky-Ohio border. Beauregard led his army northwards.

After reaching the Tennessee River on May 5th, Beauregard made a move considered highly controversial at the time, but now considered brilliant. He spotted the Army of Tennessee, clad in orange pantaloons, attempting to form a navy on the banks of the river. Beauregard ordered his troops to attack, and a quick rout of the Tennessee Volunteers ensued. Upon pinning General Davey Crockett against a bluff overlooking the river, Beauregard confronted the Tennesseean and told him, "formeth a hillbilly navy...you're doing it wrong." Beauregard imprisoned Crockett, and sent his coonskin cap back to Athens to be "hung storys above the University chapel." Crockett was disgraced, and newspapers opined that his prior military victories were due only to his recently-departed lieutenants.

Misguided observors from Ohio cheered, believing that the Georgians' victory would improve the Army of Ohio State's strength of schedule. However, Beauregard instead turned his army towards Nashville, vowing to surprise and destroy the self-proclaimed Commodores of the area "while they busieth themselves with trivialities at that Grand Old Opera."

Incensed at The General's attacks against supposed allies, Jefferson Davis ordered Beauregard back to Athens. Beauregard wrote in his journal, "that I should favor a hated neighbor for only his membership in the Confederate States of America is a folly, a gross misestimation of the true enemy... fight against the non-Southron armies should be pursued only once the bitter rivals of Tennessee, Florida, and Alabama are vanquished." Nevertheless, Beauregard returned home to Watkinsville. He married a seamstress who fashioned an "ale cozy" for him. The two moved to Clayton Street where they sold watered-down beer protected from the sun at seemingly give-away prices.

Letters found in 1929 in the basement of Beauregard's home reveal that he wrote to Tecumseh Sherman advising him to "sow the ground around Atlanta's North Avenue with salt, such that the land should never produce fruit." During the Spanish-American war, he offered Spain "an attack on Baton Rouge by an army of junkyard vikings, so that Roosevelt's forces may be distracted and you [Spain] may sieze New Orleans." Though thought treasonous in 1929, Beauregard's reputation shifted over the coming years to one of a great leader. In 1986, his home was added to the National Register of Historic Places, with President Reagan noting, "that Beauregard put aside the trivial differences between North and South, the United States and Spain, and instead worked to destory his neighboring states...is nothing less than inspirational."

The General's legacy lives on in Athens. UGA students call the ceremony of ringing the chapel bell after football victories "shaking the coonskin." In true PGT fashion, we enjoyed watching and napping to a lacrosse match between the Okalahoma and Texas tribes while drinking inexpensive beer. Only while leaving did we realize that the foundation that maintains the Beauregard home keeps the tradition of offering pitchers of Natural Lite priced to match whatever quarter is currently being shown on television. Refreshed, rested, and enlightened, we proceeded down to Sanford Stadium and watched "General Richt" recreate that historic moment, as he unleashed a fury on Phil "Coonskin Cap" Fulmer's Volunteer Hillbilly Navy. We left the game impressed with the Dawgs' 26-14 victory and filled with noble rage towards our neighbors of every direction. On the walk back to the car, we were reminded of Beauregard's famous deathbed words: "You know what? Florida sucks."

Reflections from the bye week

It took me a full week to collect my thoughts after the Alabama game. As I sit on the love seat and flip between the Purdue-Penn State game and the Boston College-NC State game, I realize not only what a couple of stinkers I am viewing (Why is Purdue having a "blackout" for a noon game?) but also that today is a beautiful day for football across the entire country. But alas, the Dawgs are taking a much needed break from action.

First, a recap of last week:

We lost the game. Badly. Worse than the final score indicated. However, maybe not as bad as the halftime score indicated. The Dawgs' weaknesses all reared their ugly heads at the same time, with penalties, poor pass rush, and and a-step-behind coverage all combining for an absolutely humiliating two quarters. A few things to remember - Alabama is a good team and they played very, very well. Our defense is based on making teams drive all the way down the field. When you don't get pressure on the QB and you help the other team with penalties, that strategy doesn't work, but those are problems that will be worked out with a week off and some experience from the next couple of games. Lastly, as Jim Donnan supposedly pointed out, Alabama would not be nearly as good if they lost Terrence Cody and Andre Smith, which is exactly what we experienced losing Jeff Owens and Trinton Sturdivant.

We will probably only face one more team this year with offensive and defensive lines that good, we are playing some very inexperienced guys on the line who will certainly improve as the season progresses, and Florida already has an SEC loss as well. I believe the old saying that you are never as good as you look after a win or as bad as you look after a loss, so I think the Dawgs still have a better shot than anyone of winning the SEC East. With losses coming to something like 12 of the top 10 teams, it was just a bad weekend to be playing football.

In the good news category, it was a great tailgate. Several of us ventured down to check out Game Day, we watched Ole Miss beat the Gators, we entertained a throng of strangers, we received a geography and sociology lesson on Metro Atlanta, we provided an example of responsible behavior for our younger tailgate neighbors, and we gave something like 50 hot dog buns to a poor, hungry, and lost college student. All in all, it was a good day that was capped with a delicious bratwurst at halftime, a great atmosphere and fantastic crowd during the second half, and the deepest slumber I've ever experienced on the ride home.

Though I lost all interest in football for about six days, I am absolutely ecstatic with the idea that we can relieve our frustrations on Tennessee.

For whatever reason, I've been watching a lot less CSS these days. Apparently, I'm missing out. I've seen Coach Richt's Ford advertisement, but missed this gem:

EveryDayShouldBeSaturday has a quality critique. The comments are pretty good. I think the message is clear - if you purchase carpet anywhere else, you are 100% Florida Gator Trash.

I note that Coach Richt and his wife are ready for the blackout. As good as this commercial is, I'm not sure it ranks up there with the favorite of Mrs. Qwan (Cookie Kwan - don't mess with the westside):

The seniors requested a “Blackout” on the plane ride back from Tempe after hearing that “Game Day” would be showing up in Athens this weekend. A top ten match-up between the Dawgs & ‘Bama with a 7:45pm kick…man is there going to be some property destroyed Saturday night!

The DOTWU crowd plans to stake the flag early Saturday morning at our traditional spot on the Driftmier Lawn for what appears to be (as of today’s forecast – High 81, 68% Humidity, Low 60, light wind) a beautiful day in the Classic City.

After being the only Dawg-Fan in the country not to get the Blackout memo last year, perhaps Steve can redeem himself and not be the only douche to show up in white.

Who does #3 work for?

Not much to say this week - I actually missed the majority of the South Carolina game. At first, I was irritated that I had to spend Saturday afternoon moving. In hindsight, that's probably a good thing. What I did catch on either the TV or the radio was a two-point conversion, a dropped pass, two three-and-outs, and South Carolina throwing an interception to kill their last drive. As soon as I heard that Oklahoma jumped us in the polls, I immediately pictured Auburn 2004. As much as the pundits want you to believe that they were shut out of the championship game because of the weakness of their schedule, the true reason is because USC and Oklahoma were ranked higher to start the season. Last year and this year, voters seem more likely to reshuffle the deck even if no teams lose (though it usually involves Georgia dropping. Thanks ESPN!), so perhaps there is no reason to fret. However, I think Oklahoma will get just as much praise for a tough schedule as Georgia, and nobody is going to drop USC without a Trojan loss.

But, that is getting way ahead. There are still nine games left, plus a conference championship game. If we win all of those, I will be elated no matter what happens (I swear).

South Carolina Week

I don't think it is possible to come up with more than five differences between those two paintings. If you haven't seen "The Royal Tenenbaums," you should. I'm not saying you will like it, because it seems that most people don't. But it is worth seeing.

But I digress - back to the Gamecocks. It is easy to laugh at South Carolina, because it is literally easy to do. There are so many things to laugh at, you will never lack something to guffaw over. But the fact remains that South Carolina beat Georgia in Athens last year, and it is a game that always turns out to be tougher than it seems it should be. Is it just me, or does it seem like we've had a few meetings where South Carolina's struggling quarterback looks like an All-American when lined up against the Dawgs?

I could beat Georgia with one hand tied behind my back.

I had to look at a boxscore to see just how well Blake Mitchell did last year. It actually wasn't that hot, but I remember that he seemed to do a solid job. So, this week we get to see Smelley, or Beecher, or maybe both, or maybe both and Garcia, or maybe Spurrier will just take the snaps himself. Who knows? A player will be lined up at quarterback for South Carolina - that much is certain.

The good news is we will see the return of Dewberry and Munzy from suspensions, and hopefully the return of Kade Weston to beef up the defensive line. We should see the defense and offense both move off of Page 1 of their playbooks, and we will hopefully see the Dawgs cruise through their first legitimate test of the season.

In honor of yet another feat of athletic prowess from #24, I present the Knowshon Maraschino:

2.4 ounces of Maker's Mark
2/3 ounce sweet vermouth
2 dashes of Angostura Bitters

Combine all ingredients in a cocktail shaker filled with ice. Stir 205 times, once for every yard Knowshon had against Florida last year. Strain into a chilled glass and garnish with two maraschino cherries. Upon eating the first, yell "did you see that?!" On the second, "touchdown!"

In the interest of complete candor, I'm not sure if I actually coined the pun that is the name of this drink, or if I heard it somewhere else, maybe last year. When I was six years old, I independently mentally invented air bags and cruise control, at least as far as I remember. But the recipe is all mine, except that it is basically a super-sized Manhattan. Either way, it's a delicious drink and I suggest at your next indoor tailgate at General Beauregard's you hand the barkeep a dollar (for the tip, because drinks are apparently free) and demand a Knowshon Maraschino.

Who does #2 work for?

So, the stint at #1 only lasted a week (in game years). It seemed inevitable that the Dawgs would drop past the winner of USC-Ohio State anyway, so maybe it's better to be #2 heading into the South Carolina game, just to put a chip on the players' shoulders. The big question mark is who will fill the shoes of Jeff Owens. I'm hopeful that question will be answered by Kade Weston's speedy return and the emergence of a new superstar from the ranks of underclassmen.

But more importantly, a hearty welcome goes out to the next generation of the nation's best mascot:

Anyone who was able to watch the pre-game inauguration realizes that it probably took about an hour to get Loran's Best to actually face the camera for this picture. Mostly, he seems to want to show the crowd and the camera his other end. Rest assured, Uga VII is all male. Reich reports that the new doghouse has a special air conditioner, which is good because it was hotter than Hades at the Georgia Southern game.

So hot, in fact, that we learned personally about the energy crisis. As player after player went down with cramps, it was immediately apparent that inadequate fuel was obtained prior to the game. It wasn't just the cramps, however; it appeared that Georgia Southern's defense was out of gas starting with the coin flip. The empty tanks proved contagious, though, as our own defenders gave up 21 points after we ran up a 38-0 lead. In the end, we were all standing there with our thumbs in the air trying to figure out what direction the wind was blowing. Is this team the real deal? The accelerator was down to the floor and then it seemed like the engine just stopped. Had we driven right by our opportunity to put a shutout on the board? Were the warnings of our elder Uniting Dawg correct - that the 21 points allowed to the patsy from Statesboro would be enough to lose the precious #1 ranking?

A few McDonald's cookies and a 2-minute nap in the backseat later, I realized that we had been up 38-0 when we were playing our two-deeps on the depth chart. A lot of players (69, as it turns out) had seen the field by the time Georgia Southern (or was it Georgia State?) could remove their goose-egg from the scoreboard. Plus, we were wowed by several new stars on offense. I think we saw the birth of the most explosive offense we have ever had, with Caleb King and Richard Samuel showing that all the hype just might be real, and the receiving corps showing they might be the most talented bunch we have ever had.

Next week's tailgate will be crucial for calming nerves. The DOTWU Severe Weather Team is eyeing the latest hurricane models to determine if Hannah or Ike will pose a threat to tailgating festivities. The plan is to arrive pre-dawn at the Driftmeir building with ponchos and enough High Life to fill a five-gallon gas can.

So the Dawgs are on top of the AP poll as well as the coaches poll. Apparently, the writers haven't caught on to the doom-and-gloom talk surrounding Sturdivant's injury. There may be no Sturdivant-Night Fever at the Cocktail Party this year, but it appears that plenty of folks still predict we will be successful.

Based on the article I read, UGA garnered 22 first place votes to Ohio State's 21, USC's 12, Florida's six and Oklahoma's four. The realist/pessimist in me knows that no matter what happens against South Carolina, the writers that voted for OSU or USC will all be voting for the winner of their showdown. But, we've all seen time and time again that to win the Mythical National Championship, you need to win your games and have the media on your side. I think the no-respect thing is over now.

Back From The Beach

I'm back from the annual family vacation, which means the Dawgs kickoff in only a matter of days. For me, the family vacation in Seagrove is when the football season really starts. I get to relax, do some fishing/kayaking, and read some pre-season mags to get the football mind-set going. My level of excitement is at an all-time high at this "Post Seagrove" stage. Upon my return, the season tickets had been delivered (so glad I made those donations after graduation, better ROI than oil futures), the Dawgs were the talk of the college football nation, and Knowshon will soon be gracing the cover of ESPN The Magazine’s College Football Preview (we also made some version of the Sports Illustrated Preview). Check out the feature article from the magazine on Knowshon here; it will answer your questions on how the kid ended up in Athens…

On a somber note, I was saddened to learn that Skip Caray had passed away last week. I grew up with the voice of Skip & Pete on TBS as I followed the Braves and my childhood baseball dreams. Later in life, hearing those two call a game together just made me feel at home and reminded me of being a kid again. Skip made the call for what I consider the most exciting moment I’ve ever experienced as a sports fan --- Cabrera drives in Bream to win the National League Pennant!

Just throw it man, as far as you can

I don't think the anticipation and excitement can get any higher. The SI cover, the coaches poll, the daily practice updates, the obscene cutoff for first-time season ticket buyers... Just imagine if we opened with Oklahoma State again, or Boise State instead of Georgia Southern. If we opened with a night game against an Oklahoma State type team, there would be engineering students playing beer pong on the lawn in front of Driftmeir right now.

What I'm looking forward to seeing more than anything else is the breakout of the Dawgs' passing game. My gut tells me that we will see 200+ yards on the ground one week followed by 300+ in the air the next. There will be some receiving threats on the field unlike anything we've seen in a few years. Check out this article from the Macon Telegraph beat writer on newcomer A.J. Green and Coach Richt. If the offensive line can perform to Stacy Searels demands, and we have Knowshon, Stafford, and AJ Green on the field, what is a defense going to do? You have a running back that can spin through and break any tackle, a wide receiver that can blow past any defensive back, and a quarterback that can throw it a mile.

The bad news is we probably will have to wait until Week 3 to see all the pieces. I'm not expecting any fireworks against GSU or Central Michigan, as Bobo and CMR will likely keep it conservative. I think 52 points in South Carolina's stadium sounds pretty good, though.

The USA Today Coaches' Poll is out and the Dawgs sit atop the Pre-Season list at #1 edging out USC by 8-votes to claim the top spot. We now officially have that giant target on our back! Interesting thing about all this is that the SEC Media didn't even pick us to win the East...I hate pre-season polls; I'm ready to get this thing started.

It was certainly different to see no Bulldogs go in the first few rounds of the draft this year. I suppose if you finish #2 and have nobody drafted on the first day, that's a good omen for next year. It would look bad for recruiting, though, if it happened year in and year out. No need to worry - it appears we'll have two out of the top ten next year. The only bad news is the two players are Stafford and Knowshon.

Also, it appears that one of two things will happen with the Falcons:
a) Start Redman/Harrington/Ryan at QB and go 2-14, earning the #1 pick
b) Start J.D. Stokely at QB, win Super Bowl, and make ridiculous trades to get the #1 pick

The smart money is on (b).

The Dawgs landed a huge commitment yesterday from Aaron Murray, the top rated QB prospect in Florida and an Elite 11 QB.

This kid appears to be an awesome talent, and had offers from damn near every major school in the country; but the fact that he chose the Dawgs over his backyard Gators makes it even sweeter.

Bio: A superb talent with all the tools and intangibles to be a star on the next level. An accurate, well-groomed passer with very underrated athleticism and a strong and accurate throwing arm. Impressed at the Gainesville NIKE Camp in April with a solid showing, taking home camp QB MVP honors. Played some safety as a sophomore behind current Miami freshman QB Robert Marve and also served as an underclassman "ballboy" at last summer's Elite 11. Is the 14th Florida QB to make the Elite 11 in its 10 years. Our Long National Nightmare is Over

Odell is back! The AJC reports that the NFL has reinstated Odell Thurman. Apparently, the league is satisfied that he served his punishment for substance abuse (isn't that really a victimless crime?) and DUI. Hopefully, we'll see him in pads for Cincinnati in the fall. Man, I really miss Odell and Thomas Davis. They have to be the nastiest linebaker/safety combo to play on the same college team in a long time. Here's a "finesse" clip of Odell.

Sadly, this news comes on the same day that we learn what we suspected all along - David Pollack's playing days are really over. Nobody certainly ever questioned the guy's heart and determination, but sometimes a person is just meant for other things - like appearing in French music videos:

In other news - don't miss the Gym Dawgs going for four national titles in a row in front of a home crowd this weekend. Attendees should wear their dark gear, as the plan is to blackout Stegeman all weekend.

And, don't look now but the baseball team is off to the best SEC start in school history at 14-3-1, and is now ranked #5 by Collegiate Baseball and #10 by Baseball America. The goal is a national seed and a Super Regional at Foley Field.

The Equestrian title has returned to its rightful home, with the Horse Dawgs winning their third national title since 2002, knocking off cow colleges Texas A&M, Auburn, and Okie State.

You only call it a cow college because

Basketball Recruits

Enough with the running back greats replaying scenes from their favorite Vietnam War movies and getting tasered. The AJC reports that the hoops squad picked up its fifth commitment for the 2008 class.

As everyone knows, difficult-to-pronounce names are crucial for basketball success, so Felton definitely has the team pointed in the right direction when he welcomes North Gwinnett guard Ebuka Anyaorah, who joins forward Drazen Zlovaric. Anyaorah turned down offers from Texas A&M, Colorado, Auburn, Michigan, and Georgia Tech. The whole list for this class:

Remember Hawaii? That was the team the Dawgs plastered back on New Year's Day. Remember Keenan Jones? He's the DB that took the cheap shot on Mikey Henderson, then got into two or three more skirmishes during the game. The good news for Mr. Jones is that he was granted a fifth year of eligibility. Then there is the bad news. Now he is "suspended indefinately." Why the heck would anybody let that guy play in the first place?

A Tough End

I told myself that anything after winning the SEC Tourney was icing on the cake - just getting to the Big Dance was a huge accomplishment. That said, you always feel like they have one more in them, and it looked that way early in the second half with the Dawgs up by 11. In the end, Xavier took care of business with defense and free throws. When Xavier made their run, the Dawgs couldn't get an open look and couldn't get any penetration, ultimately shooting 3 for 5 (that's right, 3 for 5) from the free-throw line. 27 of the Musketeers' 73 points, on the other hand, came from the line. Just one whine - it seemed like the refs called the game loosely when the Dawgs were fresh, and started calling some ticky-tack stuff once the Dawgs were winded and having trouble keeping up.

So, the question now isn't whether Felton keeps his job, but whether the team can build on this. Losing Yata hurts big time. It'll be up to either the hero of the Kentucky game, Zac Swansey, or newcomer Dustin Ware to fill his shoes. Hopefully, the frontcourt will make improvements from this year, with Albert Jackson and Jeremy Price developing, 4-star recruit Howard Thompkins on the way, and injured freshmen Chris Barnes and Jeremy Jacob returning.

With some consistency out of the point guard position, there is no reason this shouldn't be a bubble team or better next year. It took a monumental collapse in terms of personnel to make the team plummet the way it did this year. Having some depth and production out of the forwards will do wonders. Just keep your fingers crossed that all the pocket knives are removed from the dormrooms and that everyone is going to class.

Bring on the Mouseketeers!

Beware the Ides of March if you are Kentucky or Mississippi State. I did my part and hoped for a miracle. The Dawgs did theirs and delivered a miracle. Someone forgot to tell the NCAA tournament committee not to leave the backdoor open and a tornado wreaked havoc on the brackets. After the Dawgs knocked off two teams in one day, Arkansas had no chance - Yata (the tourney MVP), Bliss, and the team would not be stopped.

Next up are the Musketeers of Xavier. This is a beatable #3 seed. They aren't Hawaii in the Sugar Bowl, but they did compile a gaudy record beating up on Atlantic 10 opponents, and I'm sure Georgia is not the #14 seed they wanted to draw. I can't wait for Thursday to get here. No matter what happens from here on, Georgia hoops fans will always remember this one.

Baketball y Beisbol

This is the time of year when you start asking yourself "what seed will my team get?" "How many wins in the conference tournament will we need to get off the bubble and in as a lock?" "Does the RPI formula unfairly penalize us for that weak non-conference schedule (thank you Georgia Tech)?" Then you realize - the Dawgs are heading out there with an average of seven scholarship players a game and sport a 3-8 SEC record.

You could put together a pretty good squad out of the players lost to injury, kicked off the team, or choosing to leave over the last few years - Mike Mercer, Takais Brown, Younes Idrissi, Billy Humphrey, Marcus Sikes, Channing Toney, Rashaad Singleton, Kendrick Johnson. Then you have the suspensions of Albert Jackson and Billy Humphrey (seriously? A pocket knife in a dorm room and jaywalking with a .03 BAC?) The shame of it is that these setbacks have squandered the efforts of Sundiata Gaines - arguably the best player for Georgia in the last twenty years. And, we've suffered through watching two of our biggest enemies on the football field build basketball powerhouses.

Some fans are certainly starting to turn on Felton. I personally think he will get, and deserves to get, one more year. There is some good young talent already on the team and more headed in next year - the guys just have to stay on the team.

Keep ya head up.

So, we'll hope for a miracle in the conference tournament and comfort ourselves with the fact that baseball is here! The Diamond Dawgs kicked off the season with a 9-7 win over #1 Arizona. The team has always been up and down, but the peaks are high enough to keep me interested, and the team returns a lot of players with experience from last year.

The ping of the bat hitting the ball is the sound of springtime excitement, and the sport gets more television coverage than ever. Just tune in once for a Super-Regional tournament and you'll forget all about those fourth-inning July snoozers from the major leaguers. For example: Harry Caray thinks someone spiked his ice cream.

This was a recent short story/ e-journal entry about 'Official Visits' taken by MZHS's most famous Gator...I still have that Alissa Alps autograph...enjoy- ML

Somewhere between three and four in the morning, I had had enough. Maybe it was the stale warm bottles of light beer that I'd been given or the complete dreariness of abandonment that been dogging me for the past few hours, but it was all starting to close in about me. It seemed clear that my only option was to leave, soon.

In the strange yellow light of a third floor loft apartment somewhere on the outskirts of Chicago I stumbled to my feet and with unsteady movements straightened my sweater and hitched up my jeans. I stared at my upside down body and let the warm fuzz of alcohol envelop my senses until I convinced myself that most definitely did not look drunk. Once I was presentable enough I gave the couch a once-over, checking for any items that may have spilled from my pockets. I hadn't spoken to anyone for at least an hour and a half. The only noises I had to keep me company were the clacking of keys and my own shallow breaths in between swallows of flat beer. I checked my pockets for my room key and wallet and found them both snugly positioned where I'd left them at the beginning of the night. Surveying the contents of my wallet I counted the length-wise folded ones when suddenly a wave of recognition and regret spilled over me. I had no idea what a cab cost but I hoped that $11 was enough. It would have to be, because that was all I had left. That and an autographed glossy of Alissa Apls and her 33 triple D breasts. How strangely this evening had gone.

The picture was a gift for a good friend. I hadn't honestly wanted to go to the strip club but nothing on this trip was really my choice. In fact nothing I'd done over the past month seemed to be my decision. I was lost in a place where the perception of things and their actual value were rarely reconciled. My worth in this strange world was based on things I hadn't done yet. People I didn't know liked me or disliked me based on a supposed future that we all conceivably shared in common. I followed along because at 17 I knew two things: that there most definitely was something great about life, and that up until then, I had no idea what it was. So when coaxed by giggling sophomores and bearded Juniors to ask Alissa for an autographed picture I complied. It was easy. The rough part came the next morning in the hotel when I found out what recruiting was really about, but for now, I needed to sleep.

In Atlanta I'd spent most of my visit talking to a female bartender in a place called Pat Hurley's back yard. It was the kind of place that makes you cringe when you think back on your college nights and the sh*t you used to drink and the dancing you would shamelessly subject the other patrons to. The kind of place that Jesus wouldn't take a dump in. All-together unholy but wonderful at the same time. There is an intangible solemnity that surrounds those places that I basked in all evening as I took shot after shot with a 45 year old woman bartender named Teresa.

"The trick is to not look like you're in high school." That's what I told myself over and over as I glanced back and forth from the dance floor to the scuffed and grafittied bar top. Occasionally I raised my face to shine a sheepish grin at Teresa or to accept yet another shot bought for me by the owner, who sat on a stool at the opposite end of the bar watching me with a silent enjoyment as I raised each and every shot in cheers to him. As he saw things, this was his duty. The football players were regulars and their presence certainly boosted business, so it was only right to take good care of their recruits, because honestly we were really his recruits too.

"What's this one?" I shouted over the deafening music of the dace floor. Teresa was sliding two shot glasses brimming with neon yellow liquid in my direction. A smile rested on her lips and the hint of something else dancing around her eyes. I saw her mouth forming words but I couldn't make anything out over the sound from the speakers. "What?" I called back.

In a move that was half cowboy and half cheerleader she planted her elbows on the bar top and shifted her weight forward, pivoting on her elbows and lifting the lower half of her body off the ground. Smiling she leaned her face and hair in close to my ear and whispered "Lemon Drops." She smelled better than any woman I'd ever know and even through the smoke and musk of churning bodies I could make out her scent. It was terribly attractive.

"Sounds good to me" I shouted as she leaned back to check my reaction. Honestly, I could 't have cared what was in the shot. I would have drank gasoline so long as she leaned in close to whisper it to me. She was just far enough from me to bring her shot to her lips without bumping into my chin. I drank the concoction down quickly, never taking my eyes from her as she balanced on the bar. She lingered a second more to shoot me one more long-toothed grin, then she collected our shot glasses in between three nimble fingers and planted her feet lightly again behind the bar and swayed off to pour more drinks. I realized then that I was leaning forward, quite awkwardly, over the bar. I relaxed slowly back into my seat and caught the owner grinning smugly at me from his stool a few feet away. I smiled a nervous smile as he raised his glass in salute.

The next morning as I inventoried the contents of my pockets, about to head down to breakfast I found a card mixed in with my keys and change. I flipped it around until the type was right-side-up. It read only Tim Halstead, Manager. On the back in swirls and arcs that piled upon each other, forming lavish curls of lettering the words "You're a cutie. Come see me again when you're in town. - Teresa" rested almost on top of the faded gray paper. A shock of satisfaction smashed into me and I smiled a big goofy one and looked up to share this discovery with someone, anyone, but I was notably alone. I held the card in my clumsy fingers for longer than I should have and almost regretted having to place it in my pocket to finish collecting my things. On the elevator ride to the lobby I traced the shape of the card in my pocket with my free hand as I shifted the weight of my duffle-bag on my shoulder with the other.

But trapped in a depressing apartment in somewhere in Chicago things were much more bleak. I broke the long-standing silence with a brief announcement to any interested parties "Soo, um, thanks for letting me stay for a while, but I think I'm heading out." The clacking of keys came to a dead halt and two pony-tailed girls in pajamas and glasses craned their necks backward to meet my eyes, a quizzical look on each of their flush faces. Silently outside snow was falling on Lake Michigan.

What followed was a barrage of inquiries and pleas of reconsideration. Things like "But it's sooooo cold out right now" and "you know you're nowhere close to your hotel" were slung in my direction as one of these studious girls went to fetch another beer while the other tugged playfully at my coat. Finally I conceded to one more beer whilst we worked out a plan for departure. My ride, and incidentally my host on this the last and decidedly most uneventful of my official visits to potential colleges, had gone downstairs nearly three hours ago. He'd left me in the company of two young law students fully engrossed in their term papers. Not the most suggestive of situations, but I wasn't complaining, for an hour at least. Then the talking stopped as they trotted back to their computers and I was left with a 5-pack of warm Corona Light and not even a television to keep me company.

Now they were convincing me to stick around until Dill, my absent host and more notably my only ride, returned from his weekly pleasure tour of the downstairs neighbor. "Perfect" I thought, "he gets laid and I sit up here and get drunk watching law students spell check term papers. This is going to make a hell of a story for Lat when I get home." I leaned back with my freshly opened beer and listened as the pair of adorable coeds entertained me with stories of campus life and parties. I spread my arms across the back of the couch and relaxed into the soft fabric. I pretended I was home in my buddy's basement telling them about my travels of late and how much fun I had, even if all of it wasn't entirely true. I smiled politely as they talked on and on watching the falling snow just beyond the blackened window and I kept thinking of Boston and the things I'd seen there. Snow was following me everywhere these days.

All dorm rooms eventually start to look alike. It gets so you can't tell one from another. One city from the next. As I watched my host standing by the dinning room table running his hands along the shiny metal seams of a hand-held industrial staple gun I wondered just what he intended to do. Seated at the table his roommate was talking to me between bites of left over steak and lobster I'd carted back from the restaurant the coaches had taken us to. He laughed occasionally at the things he said, every time covering his mouth and nodding furiously. His roommate, my host, was too absorbed in the staple gun to hear much of what was being said. This was certainly an odd pair if ever I saw one. I glanced about the dingy room to the Boston skyline illuminated in the evening sky and was thankful that we never had to crash with our hosts on these visits. I needed a tetanus shot just to go into the bathroom.

The other recruits and I had dined that evening at an establishment of some note in the Boston area. I didn't see prices on the menu and I counted at least three Mercedes and one Bentley come through the valet stand while we were coming in. At the urging of the coaches we all ordered the three pound lobster, a steak and an appetizer each. I'd made it through most of my potatoskins (which in reality were halved potatoes coved in cheese and sour cream) when my steak arrived, seated triumphantly atop a bed of steak fries.. I wanted my dad to be there for that one moment so he could see me take a bite from this steak in this restaurant in this City and hear what he would say about it all. I imagined what he'd say as he took a bite of the tender meat "This ain't bad, but you know what i needs? Fresh Lemon. Yup. That's it. Fresh squeezed lemon".

As the rest of our party tore heartily into the feast that lay before us I deliberately slowed my pace, enjoying the satisfaction of chewing, and the lustful anticipation of each bite. When i consider going back to being a carnivore, this is the meal I fantasize for myself. I stopped half-way through the monumental cut of beef. "The rest is for Pops" I thought to myself, and began cracking and sucking the tender bits of the bright red lobster that lay waiting before me. The waiter politely showed us the best bay to approach a lobster and pointed out to everyone exactly where the "oysters" were located, though I was the only one curious enough to try them.

The lobster proved too much a meal for any of us, and as we talked about home and drank our drinks they wrapped up the remains of our meals, and brought out the check. I couldn't make out the exact price but I saw a three in the left had position, and with six of us eating I don't think it was in the three-digit price range.

Overstuffed on a fine meal and the day-dreams of college life I exited the bus in front of the stadium behind the others. It'd snowed the week before so there were small deposits of the stuff laying about. It was little more than slush but still I was excited. I paused for a moment to kick a small pile of dirty snow that lay peacefully on the sidewalk. I had never seen real snow before. The stuff we got in Georgia growing up was nothing like this. As I crushed hard chunks under foot I imagined what a winter in Boston would be like. I let me mind drift into a scene of soft falling snow and white courtyards filled with passing students. I let this idea swim around in my head for a while. A coach saw me lingering and came over to ask what the hold up was. "Snow" I explained with a childish grin. "I've never seen snow like this before." The coach looked amused. He smiled down at the foot prints I'd left and then back up to me and stated plainly "Yeah, this sh*t's everywhere in the winter."

The girls gave up on entertaining me after a while. They were trying to finish their work before break and they'd been stuck with me on the promise that Dill would be back in an hour or so. It was now going on five hours. Dill's sex-olympics, while one for the record books, was hindering their night now as well. Incidentally, Dill was not the real name of my host in Chicago. It was Matthew Dillson. Everyone just called him Dill. He was an average football player from Wisconsin with great hands and a thing for blondes. I can't remember if I ever actually wanted to sign there, but after I was ditched for a cleat-chaser until four in the morning with a pair of over-energetic law nerds and warm beer, lets just say they didn't make my short list.

Gator tail tastes like catfish. Catfish and country-fried steak. With some tartar sauce and salt you couldn't even tell what it was you were eating. It just tasted like everything fried you'd ever eaten in your life. Brown and delicious. I finished my gator and refilled my plate with shrimp and carrots. I ate as I looked around at the tables of dozens and dozens of me, looking more confused than even I was. Tearing meat with our teeth we regarded everything as somehow distinctly ours. The stench of over-confidence hung all around. Even chairs and tables seemed as if they were arranged for the pleasure of each of us, according to a grand orchestration of our desires. I have never seen such a display of pandering outside of movies or television. It was obscene.

We sat in long carpeted room that was adorned with similar-sized and shaped photographic portraits. The last few rows began in color washed and faded and progressed into bright and violently saturated greens and blues and oranges. I wandered over during post dinner conversations the other recruits were having about bigger schools and envelopes filled with money to observe the nameless figures staring out over the scene. To listen to what they might be saying as they watched us consume and consume.

Aligned in neat rows of years and sports these accomplished many told their tales from the brief frame of their wooden casing, singing praise for each and every second they were alive. To me it seemed that even the ones not yet dead were somehow passed, waiting for the person who's only job it was to update the living and dead faces with a departure figure and a period. What an odd position to have; denoter of death.

I noticed the faces and regarded the distinction that some of the names held. I watched their eyes follow me from one frame to the next as my gaze fluttered over mustaches and bangs and sideburns and lipstick. Fresh-faced students, some dead and buried now, gleaming through the dusty tones of black and white and hoping to be remembered by someone foolish enough to come too close. Suddenly I wanted to leave. I felt a disastrous urge to quit this company and tread back to Georgia without these heavy burdens in tow but I knew I had no choice. I was 17. What else was there to do besides go along.

As far as Richt's ping-pong method goes, it makes complete sense that it's an effective way to snag young athletes. Granted I was a third-tier recruit, but on my visits I spent less than 20 minutes with any of the head coaches at my schools, if I saw them at all.

Mostly I talked to GA's and drank Budweiser tall-boys with sophomore kickers and hit on fat chicks. Spending some personal time with a coach, even over a game of ping-pong, would have meant a lot to me, especially back then.

Now, just gimme the tall-boy and the fat chick.

Some of you may remember the infamous Willie Williams, who had one of the most storied recruiting periods ever (you can find some info pretty easily on the interwebs). Here's a nice story about how things have changed: Curfew is 9:30, sharp!

My favorite parts:

To understand how the official visit -- the two-day, all-expenses-paid trip that allows prospective athletes to see what a school has to offer -- has changed since your tour, Willie, consider the wildest part of the biggest visit weekend at Georgia this recruiting season. On the night of Dec. 6, some of the nation's top players gathered at the home of Bulldogs coach Mark Richt and played ping-pong. That's right, ping-pong.

"[Richt] is pretty dominant. He didn't lose the entire night," said Bryce Ros, a Kennesaw, Ga., tight end who will officially sign next week to play for a coach who apparently is the best American table tennis player since Forrest Gump.

Getting Ready for Signing Day

Following recruiting has never been something I've considered worth any energy. Too many kids end up not panning out, getting hurt, not making grades, etc. to get all hyped up about recruiting classes. Plus, obsessing over the whims of 18 year-olds is, well, creepy.

That said, the Dawgs successfully complete a major coup today that speaks volumes. A.J. Harmon, an offensive lineman from Lousiville, GA, committed to the Clemson Tigers over the summer. Supposedly, he expressed interest in playing on the defensive line in college (he split time in high school). Clemson said, "sure," while other schools told him that he would play on the O-line.

Rumors swirled that the Dawgs continued recruiting him, though they maintained that he would stay on the offensive line where he belongs. After the four-star recruit attended the "Blackout" game against Auburn, rumors intensified. Harmon reportedly made remarks to the effect that one staff has told him the truth while the other has told him what he wants to hear. Tiger fans watching the Army All-American game were disappointed to learn that Harmon has now committed to Georgia.

In addition to being a great addition to the 2008 class, this spells out a few things to me:

Offensive line coach Stacy Searels is building the best line in the SEC
Evil-Richt's efforts to energize the team are energizing recruits as well
Evil-Richt's evil ways don't include lying to recruits

Just another reason to be excited about 2008 and beyond.

Not since Ivan Drago manhandled Apollo Creed has the sweetheart of the nation been pounded so mercilessly. It was just like David and Goliath, except this time around, Goliath beat David's fanny. I have to say, it was pretty awesome watching the Dawgs in true Evil-Richt black turning the Rainbow Warriors back into pumpkins. That is, it was fun until about halfway through the third quarter when I started to actually feel a little sick watching Colt Brennan get tossed around. Blackout, Part Deux!

Word on the street is there is a movement underway to turn New Orleans black on New Year's Day. I know what everyone is thinking - "That scoundrel Mayor Ray Nagin and his repulsive attempts to build a homogeneous city!" But, the villian is this experiment in eugenics is none other than Evil Mark Richt, and he just wants you to show up in your duds from the Auburn game. Apparently, the players get to keep the jerseys from the bowl game because of the Sugar Bowl patches that are sewn on. So, they'll get to keep the black jerseys this year.

Now that the BCS selection process is in the rearview mirror, I'm getting more and more excited about the Dawgs playing Hawaii. It makes for some interesting story lines, and only one bowl game counts for something anyway. It is much better than another matchup with Wisconsin and it's a chance to see my third-favorite former Falcons coach from the 1990s in action.

Who among us does not love the Run & Shoot?

This time of year, the biggest news in college football is the coaching merry-go-round. So far, the best news for Dawg fans broke yesterday, as Tennessee Offensive Coordinator David Cutcliffe was hired on to be the head coach for the Blue Devils of Duke University. He was an assistant at UT from 1982-1998 and 2006-2007. So, while he was at UT, Georgia went 1-10, with the one win in 1988 when Cutcliffe was just coaching the tight ends. In his absence, Georgia has gone 14-9-2, including 4-2 in the 1999-2005 stretch. Plus, the guy recruited and groomed Heath Shuler, Peyton Manning, and Eli Manning, and turned around Erik Ainge's career. So, all things considered, it's good to see him leave.

Sadly, Ed Orgeron was made redundant at Ole Miss and we will have to wish him well. Hopefully, he is still making commercials for car dealerships.

In roundball action, the team is taking a break after the beatdown they put on Wake Forest. They travel to none other than Hawaii for the Rainbow Classic, starting December 20. It will be fun to see if the basketball team ends up facing the Warriors right before the football team does it. The only other squad of note in the eight-team field is St. Johns. This is a good opportunity for the Dawgs to pick up some wins before facing Georgia Tech (who isn't very good this year) and conference opponents. In part due to the dismissals of Takais Brown and Mike Mercer, some talented young guys are seeing a lot of playing time. I still have my fingers crossed that Felton can salvage a decent season and continue building towards worldwide dominance. Perhaps a February Saturday would be a good time for a DOTWU convergence on Athens to catch the action in person.

Mythical National Championship 2008 Starts Now

No National Championship game, no Rose Bowl, no USC. Disappointment. Unabashed profanity directed at Herbie and ESPN. At least the AP (who has no integrity) had the integrity to understand the difference between reporting the news and creating the news, and quit participating in the BCS decision. Not so for the folks at the other "World Wide Leader in Sports," who have no shame in telling the pollsters how to vote.

C'est la vie. That's in the past now.

If one thing is certain, it's that the Dawgs can't depend on other teams to do their dirty work. We can all bellyache about how if South Carolina/Vandy/Kentucky had taken care of UT, we'd have mopped up the corndogs and be headed to the biggest game. That's in the past, and it is time to win 15 in a row, starting with the Rainbow Warriors of Hawaii. This time next year, they'll be talking about how the Dawgs have won their last 20 games.

All we know about the opponent right now is that they are headed up by a former Falcons coach, their quarterback throws for something like 500 yards a game, and a win by the Dawgs will open up the Pacific Rim for recruiting.

I'm talkin' about these bad boys! On the O-Line!

So buck up, pardner. We've got a great shot at going 11-2 and finishing in the top five. That sets up great for next year. New Orleans is driving distance and is great for New Year's Eve. Plus, there should be plenty of tickets at cheap prices. Let's just hope the team watches the first half of that UGA-WV Sugar Bowl about 20 times between now and then and remembers what happens when you aren't fired up for the bowl opponent.

I can't think of a better way to end this F'd up college football season. Monkeys are flying out of PWD's ass, and he's sending a fruit basket to Coach Wannstedt!

Despite their best attempt to send a Big East Representative to the BCS Championship game, the officiating crew of the Pitt/West Virginia game couldn't overcome Wannstedt's mustache...It's got to be the stache!

All the talking heads seem to think that LSU will jump us in the BCS; who knows??? The BCS selection show is Sunday night at 8:00pm on Fox. College Football News (as of 11:50pm Sat. Night) has the following projection for the BCS National Championship Game:

The Dawgs regular season is done, but this is still a big weekend. There are quite a few contingencies in the college football world that will influence our Bowl situation. The GSB sums it up pretty well and informs you on who to root for this weekend. I'll be pulling hard for the Sooners and hoping for a Rose Bowl berth (too much to expect a miracle and the backdoor championship game berth). UGA played in the Rose in 1942 and an SEC team hasn't played in that game since 1946; it would be a historic event and DOTWU will make the trip; assuming that we get our tickets that we put in for of course.

Tech Week or How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love Reggie Ball

The last week of the regular season is here. No more gameday trips to Athens until next fall. It's time to get fired up for our biggest rival, right? For whatever reason, I put this game below Florida, Auburn, and Tennessee in terms of importance. In the era of conference divisions and championship games, it just seems more important to me to beat the SEC teams. Beating Tech never seems like a big deal - until we lose. As we all know, if Kentucky takes care of the Vols, the Dawgs get to play LSU in the Dome. All things considered, that makes the UK-UT game almost more important to me than the UGA-GT game. But, I'm counting on both games going our way.

The Dawgs' biggest advantage this weekend is one of the laws of physics. I'm not talking about Rennie Curran's superior velocity, or Chester Adams' tremendous mass. I'm not even referring to Knowshon's abilitites, since he defies the laws of physics. Many of you have already learned about what scientists have identified as Chan Gailey Equilibrium. The Ancient Greeks credited Apollo and called it "Irresistible Mediocrity." Consider that since Chan has taken over the Jackets, their records have been:

2002: 7-6
2003: 7-6
2004: 7-5
2005: 7-5
2006: 9-5

You should note that every year, Tech ends the season with 5 or 6 losses. This year, they sit at 7-4 heading into this week's game. Since they will likely face some sort of sub-par WAC team in a bowl game held in Saskatchewan, we have a virtual guarantee from science that the Dawgs will win.

So what else should we be watching for this week?

Thanks to the record shown above, Chan is officially on El Asiento Caliente, which sounds like a quality Telemundo soap opera or a good place for enchiladas, but is actually a dramatic way to say The Hot Seat. Some pundits believe he is toast whether they win or lose this week. Personally, I think Tech fans should expect better than he has delivered, but not much better. Playing Samford, The Citadel, and a slew of ACC patsies pretty much guarantees seven wins for a decent program. We'll just have to watch and see if his players rally to their coach or if the team rolls over and dies.

The Jackets will likely lean on talented running back Tashard Choice. While Coaches Richt, Bobo, and Ball like to rotate backs and keep players healthy, Chan is hell-bent on making one of his star's legs fall off. Choice has spent the season either on the sidelines with a hamstring injury or getting the ball 35 times a game. The bizarre thing is the Jacket's have quality backups at the position, but that doesn't stop Chan from driving the guy like a rented Taurus.

At the QB spot, the Jackets have continued their struggles from last year. While Ramblin' Wreck fans thought the departure of Reggie Ball would be addition by subtraction, they've discovered that there is a reason that Taylor Bennett was the backup. On the season, he has thrown five touchdowns against eight interceptions, despite the team having a good running game and solid offensive line. If he struggles or if the Dawgs bottle up the run, don't be shocked to see Chan pull out all the stops and put in freshman Josh Nesbitt. He is a QB that can frustrate you with his scrambling ability, but like Bennett has had accuracy problems.

Speaking of Reggie Ball, I have to say that by the end of his career, I felt bad for the guy. He took more heat from his own fans than any college player should face, and Chan did him a huge disservice by not moving him to safety or receiver once it was apparent that he lacked the composure and decision-making ability to be a college QB. Of course, I loved watching his Keystone Cops routine against Georgia every year.

As for the Bulldog's, we will all be anxious to see how Stafford performs in his second test against Tech Defensive Coordinator Jon Tenuta's blitz-happy defense. Kentucky's defensive backs made sure that any deep balls would have to be perfectly executed, and it just didn't happen against the Cats. I have a lot of faith, though, that the team will be well-prepared, and the Jackets will have to respect Brown and Moreno.

Besides the Tech defense, the biggest threat might be chitlins. Columbus Ledger-Enquirer beat-writer David Ching keeps a fantastic blog about the day-to-day stuff. He notes this week that defensive line coach Rodney Gardner has a bunch of the players over for Thanksgiving:

Apparently he's got 10 gallons of chitlins for them with one rule -- all the chitlins have got to be gone when the players leave because chitlins are disgusting and they stink, according to coach Garner. It was amusing to hear some stuff about who pounds down the most food. Popular vote seemed to have Chester Adams in the lead.

The rule in our house is stinky food must be eaten in the garage. Let's keep our fingers crossed in hopes that everything is digested by Saturday.

One disappointing note is that senior running back Jason Johnson, a former walk-on who earned a scholarship and played a crucial role in the Florida game, suffered a spinal injury in practice and can no longer play. His health isn't jeopardized, but you hate to see that happen. Here is an interesting read about the guy.

One more thing - the basketball team faces their first big challenge of the year as they travel to Wisconsin on Saturday evening. A win in this one would go a long way towards restoring confidence after the dismissals of Takais Brown and Mike Mercer.

Emerald “Dez” Nuts

The bubble nearly got us on Saturday, but as the second half approached and the boot was turned, the game went down smoothly. Despite the fact that we were down 10-7 at the half, I never got too nervous about pulling this one out. My confidence level with this program is just sky-high right now, and I can't help but feel that we're on the verge of something special in Athens for the next couple of years. Kudos to the defense, who stepped up big on Saturday and limited the Cat's to only 29-rushing yards on 29-attempts and put Woodson on his ass 5-times (I'm glad CWM has rediscovered the blitz). And how 'bout true freshman Rennie Curran, that little mad-man is a tackling machine; it feels so great to see a UGA linebacker actually making tackles (he lead the team with 12 on Saturday). The Dawgs "D" held the highly potent Kentucky offense to just 3-points in the second half, and in my mind it was one of their best performances of the year.

You put on your best yellow sweater and yellow knee-socks, though you call them "gold," natch. Then, moving to the dresser, you specially polish your thick glasses, adding one final flourish--fresh tape wrapped around the bridge. Speaking of bridges, your braces are also polished to a fine sheen, new zits are popped, and you're lookin' GOOD! You're lookin' JACKET.

Heart pounding, you race up the steps from your parents' basement. Mumsy and Pops are reading mail from the old home country in New Jersey where they hope to retire someday. You slip out the door quietly and pedal your 3-speed through the crisp autumn air, gameday flags a-flying from the handlebars. And there it is, just ahead--the MARTA station. It won't be long now!

You climb onto a southbound train, your eyes scan the car, and--yes! There, sitting next to the chatty tranvestite--a man wearing YELLOW! You make your way over and wave your pom poms at him and giggle, and he says, "$#%^ off, %$$^&!" And now you feel it more strongly than ever--the essence of being a Tech fan. You giggle again more shrilly, dance away, then slide around safely under the seats until the stop at North Avenue, tee-heeing for all you're worth as you elude the grasp of your tormentor and his switchblade. It's sort of like Frodo hiding from the Black Riders, right here on MARTA!

You disembark at North Avenue, snatching quarters from a few homeless men, and take a deep breath of downtown Atlanta air--Tech air! Now you see swarms of other Jackets--two of them, three of them. It's no wonder the stadium had to be expanded. You pause on the bridge over the Downtown Connector to indulge in a Tech tradition: spitting on cars passing underneath. It's a massive traffic jam of red vehicles heading north, and you nail an RV with a big loogie from your morning Yoo Hoo Soda. Tee hee! Saliva, the GT calling card!

Then you're on campus, a block from the stadium. You take in the grand pageantry that is game day. It's the gray, smoggy sky; the deep blue of the police siren; the giggling of the frat boys enjoying an impromptu tickle pile on the sidewalk. It's the sound of gunfire. It's the beautiful women with their thick makeup, standing on the street corners and bantering with the passing cars. It's the voice of Kim King, talking and talking and talking in his one-note melodic range; Wes Durham screaming about a one-yard gain. It's the giant rubber bee, George O'Leary's old bedroom toy, patched all over, making funny farting sounds as the air oozes out yet again. It's Flag Boy, the aspiration of all Tech males. Tee hee!

Above all, it's four notes on a trumpet. You hear them now, playing the hallowed music, the sacred music, the Hymn of the Bee. There it is now, and you lift your voice to join in, warm tears fogging your thick glasses. The whole stadium sings solemnly:

"When you say Bud..."

Those four notes on a trumpet, your call to Jackethood, setting your yellow heart aflutter. Deep down you know this is the year--the year you beat Duke AGAIN--you OWN Duke. The year you road-trip to a BRAND SPANKIN'-NEW STARTUP BOWL for the holidays. The year your first pubic hairs break the surface. This sacred moment cannot last. Someday, by the Great Pointed Ears of Leonard Nimoy, you will be in New Jersey. In Michigan. In North Dakota. Someday you will buy your parents a house with a bigger basemment for you to live in. When I think of Kentucky, I think of long walks on the beach with the sand between my toes, classy college basketball fans, and football wins over the Dawgs. Okay, I don't think of any of those things, which means it is time for a serious UK beatdown. We dispatched the DOTWU reconnaissance unit to gather some intelligence on the Wildcats.

Unfortunately, due to a lack of submarine-navigable waters in the area around Lexington, we had to divert the recon team to a mission on behalf of DOTWU's closest blog ally. The crew is currently probing the Gulf and Atlantic Coasts, seeking a potential embarkment point for the DFF IV Maritime Alcohol Consumption Expeditionary Force (DFFIVMACEF). So, this week's report will be based on information pilfered from the internets and our own wild conjecture.

Bulldawg State of Affairs

The big question will be whether or not the Dawgs can keep up the combination of high energy and crisp execution. Some young stars like Rennie Curran and Geno Atkins are emerging on defense while the veterans like Marcus Howard and Kelin Johnson are showing that finding the endzone won't be easy for the opposition. The offensive line is playing like a solid unit. Moreno and Brown have resumed the one-two punch they gave to Ole Miss. Stafford is nailing the deep ball and the receivers are catching them.

Stafford is doing more than showcasing his arm, however. You can't help but notice how often he is changing protection schemes and plays up at the line. From Scout.com:

The number of decisions Stafford is making as a sophomore – whether it’s deciding between two running plays or a run play and a pass play – is higher than what either David Greene or D.J. Shockley did at Georgia, Bobo said.

On the injury front, the Dawgs took some monster hits from the highly-touted Auburn defense, but it appears everyone came out healthy. Hopefully, we'll see Quentin Banks and Tony Wilson return to action. Tripp Chandler reportedly was wearing a knee brace on Tuesday, but still participated in practice. That's good, because it will take everything the team has to overcome...

The Refs

Dawg fans were left scratching their heads at a few of the calls in the game against Auburn.

Dawgs of the World, you can now put another name next to Al Ford (Jasper Sanks'....knee....is.....down.....Fumble!) on your no-Christmas Card list. There is a new enemy in zebra stripes and his name is Penn Wagers. His crew also handled the Cocktail Party (ahem...the Rivalry on the River for you teetotalers) and the theory is that he was still punishing the team for The Celebration.

Coach Richt was obviously steaming mad. He expressed his feelings forcefully, and Uga finally gave the paparazzi what they deserve.

The upcoming game should feature a different officiating crew, so we'll cross our fingers and hope for a well-called game and a little privacy for the country's best mascot.

The Other Bad Guys

As usual, Kentucky is led by a scary quarterback. After enduring Tim Couch and J-Lo, the SEC now endures the wrath of Andre Woodson. This guy was a Heisman contender for a reason. He makes great decisions and has a surgical throwing arm. He's also got moxie and an accent in his first name that I cannot reproduce with my keyboard.

The Cats also feature a talented running back, Rafael Little, who uses no accent marks in his name. In case you are wondering how this once-top-ten team stumbled against Mississippi State, note that Little was out that week with a thigh injury. He also missed the UK-FL game, where UK dropped a close one. He returned last week against Vandy but left early due to a back injury. No word on the internets yet on whether he will play in Athens, but we will be the first to break the news once an announcement is made, guaranteed. We aren't called the "World Wide Leader in Sports" for nothing.

The man steering the ship for the Cats is Coach Rich Brooks, who also features no accents in his first name, but spells it without the "e." He is insane.

Brooks retired after 18 years at Oregon, but came back to the game to turn around the program left ruined by NCAA rules violator Hal Mumme and ineffectual Guy Morriss.

Tailgating

DOTWU will be entering the 21st century with the adoption of an exciting new technology - the electric griddle. The plan is to have the breakfast enjoyed by elite atheletes before every big game - pancakes and beer. We'll meet at the Driftmeir site bright and early. Tickets on the street should be reasonable and it's the last home game of the year, so bring your spatula and a 40. By the way - thanks go out to Reich, the Old Man, and Stephen for locking down room for the tents last week. Ten minutes later and we would have been waging battle with the "Old Oak Tree Gang" or whatever those people call themselves.

In my 10+ years of attending Georgia Football games in Athens, this past Saturday ranks near the top of my list. The shift in culture that we witnessed with the “celebration” down in Florida was palpable ‘tween the hedges’ on Saturday. Like D-Qwan, I wasn’t too excited about the whole black jersey thing or the “blackout,” but when I walked into that stadium (wearing my black shirt) I was amazed. Having attended most of Georgia’s home games over the last 10-years, I have a mental image burned into my head of how Sanford Stadium looks at kickoff time on gameday. When I got to my seats on Saturday and looked around, that image was replaced, and to quote CMR “It was like something out of a movie.” After a few minutes of blackout induced disorientation, I gained back my bearings and witnessed one of the most fun and exciting games/atmospheres that I’ve ever been part of. From the Red warm-up jerseys to the black game jerseys, the blacked out stadium, the Moreno & Brown runs, Stafford’s passes & Bailey’s catches, and the Soulja Boy dance after Auburn took the lead early in the second half; this was one of those games that will be talked about for a long time. This team is playing loose, having fun, and WINNING! Watch out Kentucky…

Blackout!

There's going to a blackout at Sanford Stadium on Saturday. Don't worry - your cheesy nachos will still be available. The senior players have requested that fans wear black to the game. This shouldn't be an issue for the ladies. The gentlemen, on the other hand, may need to search the back of the closet or make a stop at Penny's to pick up appropriate gear.

Please, no swashbuckling in the family-friendly tailgating areas.

I'll be honest - I don't care for this type of thing. It smells of Donnan-esque extra stripes on the helmet and black britches. That said, emotion has proven to be a huge factor this year and the seniors on this team have been through a lot the last two years. So, if they want me to wear black, I'll wear black.

While we all sport our Euro-chic finest in the stands, there should be plenty of action on the field as the Dawgs resume the Deep South's Oldest Rivalry, which has not yet been renamed by Michael Adams. A few things to keep an eye on during the game:

Quentin Groves: Auburn's defensive end has moved to linebacker to make room for another talented DE, Antonio Coleman. Expect Stafford to test the new linebacker's cover abilities early and often
Auburn running backs: Auburn's ground game is always strong. If DT Kade Weston is absent or slowed down by injury, expect Lester, Tate, and Fannin to test the Dawgs up the middle early and often.
Tommy Tuberville: Rumors swirl about a potential exit to greener pastures at Texas A&M. This could be his last trip to Sanford Stadium.
The Scoreboard: Arkansas and Tennessee kickoff at 12:30, so the outcome of this important game should be known shortly after we sing the national anthem.
Brandon Cox: The Auburn QB proved to be fragile in the psyche department last year. Expect Willie Martinez to try to rattle Cox early and often.
Tra Battle: Expect the former Dawg player and current Dawg fan to leap from the stands, clad in full ninja gear, and intercept a Cox pass three times before it touches the ground.
The restrooms: As Sonny says, "Defend the Water Supply." Let's hope that the attendants stop by early and often.

In tailgating news, Dawgs of the World will reunite at the usual spot bright and early. The weather forecast is mostly sunny, cold in the morning and pleasant in the afternoon. So, wear layers. Black layers.

I just don't get it...However, it's the last home game of the year, we have to tailgate, Reich says Beer & Pancakes! (or how 'bout BeerPanCakes)

Tony Barnhart has it right; quit the bitching and moaning, this game belongs in Jacksonville. As Dawg fans, we should all take pride in the fact that this game/event is one of the great traditions in college football. When Dooley used to carry us down to Jacksonville and routinely hand UF an ass kicking, the gators were the only ones complaining about the “neutral” site.

No excuses from these two
Now I will admit that we have travel issues; UGA is one of the only “major” schools that can’t fly out of their home-town (they have to drive 1hr & 45mins to Atlanta, go thorough security, make the flight, travel to hotel, etc./ UF gets on the bus and makes a 45min drive). Not to worry, our very own D-Qwan is on top of the issue and I expect us flying in-and-out of Athens before you know it…(D-Qwan: keep up the strong lobby, The Dawg Nation is counting on you)

Well, I don’t know what to expect from this game. The way we’ve shown up for the last couple of games its pretty easy to expect an ass kicking; but I’ve got a strange feeling about this one, and CMR usually finds away to pull something unexpected off every season. I do know one thing; I’m going to enjoy this event like I do every year and let’s just hope that we’re all toasting our cocktails when the final gun fires…

On second thought, perhaps a keg-toss would be more appropriate if we pull off the upset...

1) When Larry says "Get the picture now" everyone must do a shot to start the game.

2) The first time Larry says "Loren, whatdaya got?" everyone must reply "Well, Larry" in a high-pitched voice. The last one to do this becomes Loren and must say "I gotta drink" and then drink each time Larry says whatdaya got? for the first half. But at the start of the second half, "Loren" gets to say "I gotta drink for ———" and then gives away a drink to someone each time Larry says whatdaya got? "Loren" must do all this is a high-pitched Loren Smith voice.

3) If the real Loren tells a story that has nothing to do with the game, such as how much a player loves his mama or how the Girl Scout troop cooked s'mores for the team, everybody drinks one.

4) If Loren actually says something useful, like telling what's wrong with an injured player, everyone drinks three.

5) Every time Larry exagerates a figure, whether it be yardage, the speed of the wind, how cold it is, etc. everyone drinks two. Examples: "and he kicked it up past the moon" "the wind's blowing a hundred miles an hour" "it's fourth down and 27 miles" etc.

6) The first time Larry bemoans how much trouble the Bulldogs are in when they are clearly in control of the game, everyone drinks two. Example: "The Dawgs are up 31-0, but they've (they being UAB, Central Florida, Vanderbilt, etc.) got that little fast tailback and you know he can just explode for a thousand yards at any moment." Every time after that when Larry talks about how much trouble the Dawgs are in, everyone drinks one. (If, by consensus, the group decides the Dawgs actually are in trouble, "Loren" drinks two.)

7) Every time Larry says "There's no time" everyone drinks one. If more than five minutes are left in the game when he says there's no time, everyone drinks two. Ten minutes, three. If more than a quarter remains, everyone does a shot of tequila.

8) Every time Scott Howard interupts Larry, everyone drinks one.

9) Every time Larry talks about the fans coming into/going out of the stadium, everyone drinks one.

10) Every time Larry mentions the officials, everyone drinks one.

11) Every time Larry says "whatchmacallit," everyone drinks three.

12) If the game ends on a spectacular play with Larry saying something like "OH MY GOD! OH MY GOD! OH MY GOD!" and then nothing for like a minute, leaving you to think he might've died, everyone drinks one for each "GOD" Larry shouts.

13) If Georgia beats Florida, everyone drinks a toast to the Dawgs and yells, "Go Dawgs!"

14) If Larry ever says the phrase "hob-nailed boot" again, everyone poors their drink into a boot and "Loren" drinks it.

15) If at the end of the game, Larry says "Old Lady Luck smiled on us" everyone toasts Old Lady Luck and drinks a shot.

16) Anyone in the room not rooting for the Dawgs must double the amount of drinks taken. Any Florida fans in the room must triple it. Since Tech fans are wusses and don't drink, they must substitute getting puched in the head by "Loren."

Everyone seems to have something else going on, so the get together (at my place) for the Cocktail Party is officially off. The good news is that we'll probably win the game; my house hasn't exactly been good luck over the years (then again, only twice in the past 15-years have the Dawgs had any luck in that game).

Mexican-Australian Soulja...

For those of you who were not at the Ole Miss Game or didn't listen on the radio, much has been made of the playing of "Crank That" by Soulja Boy in Sanford Stadium at a key point during the game which helped lead the dawgs to victory. If the Redcoat Band plays "Crank That" at the next home game, Kyle King over at DawgSports.com has made this promise:

I want this to happen, so much so that I am willing to put my money where my mouth is, much as Vince Dooley did when he told the 1976 Bulldogs that, if they won the S.E.C. championship and beat Georgia Tech, he would shave his head. (They did and he did.)

I'm not going to shave my head, but I will make this promise. If, at the next Georgia home game (against Troy on November 3), the Redcoat Band plays "Crank That" and the crowd participates in the dance as part of an orchestrated effort, I will learn this dance, tape myself doing it, post it on YouTube, and publish the YouTube clip here at Dawg Sports.

Write your band director. Write your athletic director. Write your Congressman. Make this happen.

This will be comedy gold!

Just to clarify; Speedy = Mexico/Corona & Taz = Australia/Fosters (Tasmania is an Australian island and state of the same name)

Sorry for the Drunk Dialing...

Shortly after Alabama kicked the go-ahead field go in OT we began to feel that our luck was running out. Reich decided it was time for a change; after a long night of drinking Budweiser, which had seen us to a tie in regulation but an obvious momentum shift toward the Crimson Tide late in the game; Reich reached deep into the cooler of left over beer from Jay-Bird's weeding and proclaimed "the Mexicans and Australians are gonna come together to defeat the Tide." My God was he right!!! Not two minutes after we toasted our diverse imports did the Dawgs win the game in one fantastic play! The photo below was taken shortly after this glorious event; and my apologies to those whom I drunk dialed in the early hours of that Sunday morning.

Because most of the folks that I drunk dialed that night had some type of excuse for not being able to make it over to my place for the Tennessee game on Saturday, I’ve decided to postpone our little get together (which will also be the 5th annual Latimer Dawg Party) until the Florida game on the 27th. The cocktail party always makes for a good time and with Foster’s and Corona on our side, maybe…just maybe that “W” will be a little easier to come by…

The West Helms Jersey is a Staple of the Latimer’s annual Dawg Party; although I’m not quite sure why Barry likes to wear it when he plays Guitar Hero???

After a slow start, the Dawgs took care of business against Ole Miss and let’s hope that Richt continues his dominance in hostile environments against UT.

In other news, the Vandy game is set to kickoff at 6pm and will be aired on ESPN2.

Sorry for the lack of posting but real life interrupted the past couple of weeks. So the Dawgs are 1-1; things could be worse. The Ok State game was impressive; the USC game was a mess. I've got confidence in Richt to get things back together and I seriously think Bobo will learn from his mistakes. Stafford has to sharpen up; the receivers need to make some catches, and the LB's need to toughen up. I thought the O-line did an "ok" job based on their youth and inexperience. This is a team that should get better as the season progresses. I thought the GSB summed it up nicely:

In spite of all the negative, we were still just 1 or 2 plays from winning the game. In my opinion, it's not a talent problem this season. It's a maturity / execution problem. We are exactly what Richt said we were preseason. A young, talented team that should be really good later in the season. The entire question is will they get experienced enough, fast enough to avoid falling into a hole early that's too big to climb out of later.

Despite the game, the DOTWU clan had a great tailgate on a beautiful day in Athens. No tailgate for us this weekend, and it looks like our next get together will be Sept. 29th for the Ole Miss game. Rumors are for a 9pm kick-off and I ask everyone to please keep their eye on Reich; he might piss on your bumper; he has been known to do that after 24-tall boys on a 9pm kickoff tailgate...

Kickoff Times Announced

The AJC reports that the Kickoff Time for the Dawgs opener against Oklahoma State has been set at 6:45pm and will be broadcast on ESPN2. The Dawgs face Spurrier and the 'Cocks the following week with a kickoff time set at 5:45pm with the broadcast also on ESPN2. Tailgating time is right around the corner...

Paul Oliver Ineligible For ’07 Season

Big, Big, Big, Loss for the Dawgs. The UGA senior corner "failed to meet NCAA academic eligibility requirements for competition this fall." Paul played some great games for the Dawgs and did an amazing job shutting down Calvin Johnson the last two years. He plans to enter the NFL supplemental draft in July. Best of luck to you Mr. Oliver...

Western Carolina (Home) - 1:00 pm
Ole Miss - 12:30 pm
Troy - 1:00 pm
Auburn - 3:30 pm or 7:45 pm
Kentucky - No idea.

Big basketball game tonight for the Dawgs against Tech in Atlanta. The game time is set for 7pm and will be televised on FSN South.

If they can get past Tech and then beat Clemson on the 28th, that sets up a huge game at 1pm on New Years Eve against #4 ranked Wisconsin.
